“I'm goin down down baby, yo' street in a… Mustang GT?” Okay, maybe the lyrics to Nelly’s “Country Grammar” didn’t used to go that way, but maybe they do now. “Street sweeper, baby, cocked ready to let it go…”
The 2011 Mustang 5.0-liter V-8 is set to make its hip-hop debut alongside Grammy Award-winning artist Nelly as part of his upcoming album’s artwork. The album, set to launch this spring, will feature a tricked-out 2011 Mustang GT customized by DUB Magazine.
The 35-year-old rapper, actor and mogul, who was most recently ranked third on Billboard Magazine’s “Artist of the Decade List,” says the Mustang is one of the hottest muscle cars ever to hit the streets.
Nelly’s tricked-out Mustang GT came to life after the artist caught a glimpse of the vehicle while inside the walls of Ford’s design studio a little more than a year ago as part of a partnership tied to the launch of the 2009 Ford Flex. Since then, Nelly has collaborated with Ford’s design team and DUB’s customization team to make the Mustang his own while still keeping the vehicle true to its muscle car roots.
The exterior of the vehicle features a custom gloss black paint job with flat black racing stripes and a Street Scenes body kit complete with custom 22- and 24-inch wheels and Pirelli tires. The vehicle also includes a billet grille, hood scoop, tinted taillights, angel eyes headlights and a Borla exhaust.
In addition, the interior is a complete suede and leather design with a custom JL Audio system that includes two 12-inch subwoofers, amps and speakers.
2011 Ford Mustang GT
The 2011 Ford Mustang GT arrives with an all-new advanced 5.0-liter V-8 engine, developed by a passionate cadre of engineers who rallied around the common goal of delivering more than 400 horsepower.
The modern 5.0-liter four-valve Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) V-8 engine in the new Mustang GT will deliver 412 horsepower and 390 ft.-lb. of torque. At the same time, fuel economy is projected to be better than the previous model and unsurpassed in the segment.
The 412 horsepower and 390 ft.-lb. of torque delivered by the 2011 Mustang GT 5.0-liter V-8 represent significant increases versus 2010 model year output levels.
A Brembo brake package upgrade will be available for serious enthusiasts. This package includes 14-inch vented front discs from the GT500 Mustang, unique 19-inch alloy wheels and summer performance tires.
Quotes
“I don’t care where you grew up, everyone knows the Mustang. At some point, you’ve had a conversation about a Mustang – and it was probably one about you wanting to get behind the wheel of one. I’ve always loved the Mustang; the vehicle has power to the point where you can’t help but want to hit the pedal. And the newest one? More power, hotter style.”
– Nelly
“I’m itching to get behind the wheel of my Mustang and really take it out on the streets. This vehicle being a part of my album artwork is just a reflection of the direction and feel that the album has. To be able to partner with Ford again on another vehicle that is going to change the automotive game is exciting.”
– Nelly
“Nelly is a true car guy, there’s no denying that. When Nelly expressed interest in wanting to partner with Ford on the all-new 2011 Ford Mustang GT, we knew it was a perfect fit. The Mustang has such appeal within the urban market. Since it was launched, the vehicle has made appearances in several of the most popular urban films. This was just a great opportunity for Ford, and we’re excited that the Mustang GT is going to be a part of one of the most anticipated albums of 2010.”
– Crystal Worthem, Ford’s Multicultural Marketing Communications Manager
You thought it was just crazy talk when you heard the rumors, but lo and behold it’s a reality. Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) will allow drivers of the 2011 Mustang GT to balance high performance and fuel economy. What a concept!
Ti-VCT provides extremely precise variable – yet independent – control of timing for intake and exhaust valves. Drivers of the 2011 Mustang GT will notice abundant torque and class-leading fuel economy. An additional benefit of Ti-VCT is a reduction of emissions, especially in situations when the throttle is partially open.
Independent adjustment of intake and exhaust valve timing allows maximum fuel economy at part-throttle, while delivering optimized power in full-throttle situations. An added benefit is improved drivability and responsiveness across the torque curve.
How Ti-VCT works
The new 5.0-liter V-8 in the 2011 Mustang GT is a double-overhead-camshaft configuration that employs two camshafts per cylinder bank – one camshaft to operate the intake valves and one camshaft to operate the exhaust valves. Ti-VCT rotates the camshafts to advance or retard the cam timing, based on several measures including throttle opening.
An element unique to the Mustang GT 5.0-liter V-8 application is that Ti-VCT is actuated by camshaft torque, with assistance from pressurized oil. Using camshaft torque energy provides faster throttle response and maximizes use of existing energy, to aid fuel economy. Camshaft torque energy Ti-VCT actuation is a Ford innovation, introduced first on the 3.0-liter V-6.
Working like a ratchet, the one-way valves allow precise timing of camshaft events, continually optimizing timing to provide maximum thrust or fuel economy, based on driver input.
Quotes
“Ti-VCT is a win-win-win technology. It helps our new range of engines to deliver high performance with unsurpassed projected highway fuel economy of 25 miles per gallon and reduced emissions.”
– Barb Samardzich, Vice President, Global Powertrain Development
“Ti-VCT technology will continue to proliferate across the Ford powertrain portfolio. By 2013, you can expect to see this advancement available on 90 percent of our nameplates.”
– Barb Samardzich, Vice President, Global Powertrain Development

Quotes
“My grandfather’s prize possession in life was a 1970 Mustang Mach 1, one of the sickest cars you could imagine. Knowing of my grandfather’s love for the Mustang, I wanted to incorporate the 2010 Mustang into one of my acts and unleash my Mustang side by performing one of my biggest illusions yet on the Las Vegas Strip.”
– Steve Wyrick, Las Vegas magician
“Our goal was to make the final ’10 Unleashed experience something truly unforgettable. To have Vaughn race down the Las Vegas Strip in Spellbinder after kicking off the campaign by drifting the Mustang around Japan was a perfect ending to a great campaign.”

Since its victorious introduction at the NHRA Winternationals in 1968, Ford’s Cobra Jet Mustang has created a legacy of power, performance and triumph.
The 40th Anniversary 2008 Cobra Jet Mustang lived up to the legend of the original, duplicating the NHRA Winternationals victory in 2009 and dominating drag strips across the land.
Today, Ford Racing unveiled the 2010 Cobra Jet Mustang at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show, which marks the continued evolution of the CJ as a factory-produced turnkey race car. In honor of the SEMA introduction, Ford Racing built and unveiled a one-of-a-kind “SEMA Special” silver Cobra Jet complete with a charcoal Cobra Jet graphics package.
A factory-built race car
For decades, the Mustang has been the preeminent car in many forms of racing, including drag racing. The 2008 Cobra Jet Mustang added to that legacy this season with high- profile wins at the NHRA Winternationals and U.S. Nationals, and by setting numerous track records across the country.
The 2010 Cobra Jet, like its predecessor, is a factory-built race car that is intended for NHRA Stock and Super Stock racing. The goal for the 2010 Cobra Jet was to enhance the race features to further make its own place in NHRA history. The 2010 CJ will come with all of the features of the 2008 car with enhancements that include options for a full race-prepared automatic or manual transmission, drag race-specific shocks and springs, manual steering and brakes, 8.50 certified rollcage, and an Aeromitive return-style fuel system with trunk-mounted fuel cell.
Additionally Ford Racing engineers have developed for the 2010 Cobra Jet a factory-first launch control/rev limiter that will allow drivers to preset the rpm after they stage the car. When they are ready to leave, all they do is put the throttle pedal to the floor; they don’t have the engine speed to free rev. Previously, the launch control/rev limiter was only available as an aftermarket option.
Much like Ford Racing’s previous Mustang FR500S race car, the Cobra Jet Mustang will get its start at the Auto Alliance International (AAI) assembly plant in Flat Rock, Mich. The entire 50-car run of 2010 Cobra Jets will be built on the same production line that produces the 2010 Ford Mustang production car. Production of Cobra Jets will commence in January, with delivery of all vehicles expected in the first quarter of 2010.
The choices are clear
All of the additional parts and pieces for the CJ can be found in the Ford Performance Parts catalog. And since the Cobra Jet is produced from a base V-6 Mustang, any consumer can turn his Mustang into a Cobra Jet by purchasing the parts from the Ford Performance Parts catalog.
The 2010 CJ car features a choice for customers between two supercharged engines or three normally aspirated engines (pending NHRA approval). These options will allow the Cobra Jet to be eligible for more classes in the NHRA, as well as competition with other sanctioning bodies, including NMRA, NMCA, PSCA and IHRA.
All 50 of the 2010 Cobra Jet Mustangs have already been ordered by Ford dealers for delivery to customers. For those customers who missed out on the limited run of 2010 Cobra Jets, Ford Racing has set a goal to provide future versions of the Cobra Jet.
Quotes
“The 2008 Cobra Jet was a great car, it did everything we wanted it to do. We’re really proud of the car, but then again we’re always trying to make the next one better. With the 2010 Cobra Jet, we had the luxury of a longer development cycle and the result is absolutely stunning. Where the 2008 Cobra Jet was an extremely potent starting point for NHRA Stock competition, the 2010 will enhance the car further. We are all excited to see the new Cobra Jet in competition.”

RDA survey shows Ford outperformed Honda in initial quality and improved upon its previous customer satisfaction scores.
Ford’s quality performance efforts are paying off; the latest customer satisfaction survey reports that in initial quality –a vehicle’s performance during the first three months of use– Ford’s 5 percent increase over its last scores has allowed it to surpass Honda and statistically tie at the top with Toyota.
Specifically, the study shows Ford’s domestic brands with a combined average of 1,228 TGW per 1,000 vehicles during the first three months of ownership, besting the 1,422 TGW level for Honda and statistically equivalent to the 1,150 TGW level of Toyota.
Pushing up customer satisfaction two points to 79 percent, Ford's domestic brands have tied the top place finishers of Toyota and Honda for overall customer satisfaction.
The following models are segment leaders:
Ford Mustang – TGW and satisfaction for sports car
Ford Taurus – TGW for large car
Ford Taurus X – TGW leader for crossover utility
Mercury Milan – TGW for midsize car
Ford Ranger – TGW leader for compact pickup
The 2009 U.S. Global Quality Research System (GQRS), a survey conducted for Ford by RDA Group of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., measures 2009 model year vehicle initial quality in two categories: by the number of things-gone-wrong and customer satisfaction with overall vehicle quality.
Quotes
“We are energized by the continuous improvement we are seeing on both initial vehicle quality and customer satisfaction,” said Fowler. “This survey validates the hard work and dedication to quality from Ford employees, suppliers and dealers. We will keep the momentum going as we strive to become the clear global quality leader.”
“Ford's commitment to quality is really paying off, as they continue to rival Honda and Toyota on both vehicle satisfaction and quality.”
- Donald Pietrowski, president, RDA Group
For 45 years, the Ford Mustang has been lighting up the silver screen.
From the time of its introduction at the World’s Fair in New York four and a half decades ago, the iconic pony car has appeared in more than 500 movies and hundreds of television programs.
Ever since 1964 when the Mustang appeared in the Bond film Goldfinger, filmmakers have often used the Mustang to symbolize the quintessential American cool. In the 1968 film Bullitt, Steve McQueen played a hardened police detective chasing down killers in a 1968 Mustang GT390.
But the Mustang can also be aspirational. In the 2007 film The Bucket List, starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, Freeman’s character is dying and lists “Drive a Shelby Mustang” as one of the things he longs to do before he kicks the proverbial bucket.
Here are just a few of the Mustang’s memorable moments on the silver screen:
Goldfinger (1964) – This Bond film gets high Mustang marks for being the first movie to show off Ford’s new sporty car, a white 1964½ convertible driven by a beautiful woman assassin. After a brief chase in the Swiss Alps, Sean Connery in his Aston Marin DB5 borrows a trick from a chariot racer in Ben Hur to shred the Mustang’s tires and its rocker panel.
Bullitt (1968) – Steve McQueen is the hardened police detective who drives a 1968 Mustang GT390 in a nine-minute, 42-second car chase against killers in a black Dodge charger through the hilly streets in and around San Francisco.
Diamonds Are Forever (1971) – As James Bond, Sean Connery eludes police pursuit in a red 1971 Mustang Mach I fastback on two wheels to squeeze down a narrow alley in downtown Las Vegas. The car tilts up on the passenger side wheels entering the alley and exits the alley on the driver’s side wheels, a pretty neat trick.
Gone in 60 Seconds (1974) – For slam-bang action, it’s hard to beat this B-movie about an insurance-man-turned-car-thief forced to steal 48 cars which have been given women’s names to foil eavesdroppers. The second half of the movie is a 40-minute car chase that destroys 93 cars, leaving the getaway vehicle, an orange 1973 Mustang Mach I, much worse for wear.
Bull Durham (1988) – Kevin Costner is the fading ballplayer in this sports comedy love triangle with Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins. Since Costner’s character once tasted glory for a brief time in the major league’s “show,” it’s only fitting that he picked up a 1968 Shelby Mustang GT350 convertible along the way.
True Crime (1999) – Clint Eastwood plays a reporter with a messy personal life who gets one more chance to get it right after something doesn’t add up in the case of a Death Row inmate facing imminent execution. His car matches the man – a 1983 Mustang convertible with more than a few miles on it.
Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000) – In this remake of the earlier film, retired car thief Nicolas Cage has to boost 50 cars in 24 hours to save his kid brother from killers. The ultimate prize is Eleanor, a silver and black 1967 Shelby GT500 styled by car builder Chip Foose.
The Princess Diaries (2001) – Anne Hathaway stars as Mia, an awkward 15-year-old who learns that she’s actually a princess by her royal grandmother, played by Julie Andrews. Initially, all Mia wants to do is stay unnoticed at school and get her 1966 Mustang fixed up in time for her 16th birthday.
Hollywood Homicide (2002) – Josh Hartnett and Harrison Ford star as detectives in this action “dramedy.” Their car of choice? A 2003 silver Saleen S281 supercharged Mustang.
Cinderella Story (2004) – An unpopular girl, played by Hillary Duff, is exploited by her wicked stepmother. She loses her cell phone instead of a glass slipper at the ball, but she gains a prince. Her car of choice: a sky blue 1965 Mustang convertible.
I Am Legend (2007) – Years after a plague kills most of humanity and transforms the rest into monsters, the sole survivor in New York City, played by Will Smith, struggles valiantly to find a cure. Smith’s co-star in the movie? A red and white 2007 Shelby Mustang.
Quotes
“Mustang has had the most roles of any Ford vehicle, and there are no competing cars that come close. From a product placement perspective, Mustang is the gift that keeps giving and giving.” - Bob Witter, of Ford Global Brand Entertainment (FGBE)
“The Mustang set off a revolution almost to the level of the Model T in terms of making a cool sports car affordable to the average person. When you were driving a Mustang, you were special. You were noticed. You stood out. And today the Mustang delivers the same attributes.” - Bob Witter, of Ford Global Brand Entertainment (FGBE)
Original 1964 ½ Mustang owners share their stories at Mustang’s 45th anniversary party.
For the pony car’s 45th anniversary celebration in Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala, on April 17-21, a host of events are planned, including a display of hot lapping by four-time Mustang champion and SPEED TV personality Tommy Kendall and other professional racers around the park in Mustang FR500S race cars. And world champion drifter Vaughn Gittin, Jr., will be on hand all weekend to give demonstrations and rides.
But at the heart of the celebrations will be the stories of several original owners who will be displaying their Mustangs and sharing their experiences with their iconic pony cars. For example:
Phil Florio, one of nine original owners, bought a 1964½ Wimbledon White Ford Mustang. He turns 71 in May, and credits the iconic Mustang with keeping him young at heart.
Laki Malamatenio, who owns a 1964½ Poppy Red Mustang 289 that he refers to affectionately as “Poppy”, says that his car is an integral part of the fabric of his life, having used it to drive to his wedding and to secure the loan to buy his first house.
Fred Glazier’s Rangoon Red Mustang coupe not only brings back poignant memories, but he says his love of working on his car inspired him to leave his career as a pharmaceutical representative and follow his passion of restoring antique cars.
Kathy Miller, of Boardman, Ohio, received her 1964½ Prairie Bronze Mustang coupe as a high school graduation present from her mom and dad, and years later she and her husband used the car on their wedding day. She laughed that when her son restored the Mustang five years ago, there was still rice in the dashboard.
For Edgar “Alex” Alexander, his black 1964½ Mustang convertible was an impulse purchase he never once second-guessed, and says that over the years the car went from a means of transportation to a family treasure.
Quotes
“I used to drive the car in New York in the middle of winter, and when I got home I’d get blue hands trying to wash the snow and salt off of it in the freezing cold weather. I loved the car, and knew when I bought it that I was going to keep it for as long as I possibly could.” - Phil Florio, original Mustang owner, 1964½ Wimbledon White Ford Mustang
“‘Poppy’ took me to Las Vegas to get married. She took me to the hospital when both of my children were born, and she’s taken the whole family on vacation. My whole life flashes before my eyes when I get into that car. We wanted to buy a house, but we didn’t have enough money for a down payment. The car was paid off, so I took out a home loan using ‘Poppy’ as collateral.” - Laki Malamatenio, original Mustang owner, 1964½ Poppy Red Mustang 289
“I dated my wife in it. We took it on our honeymoon, and we brought both of our children home from the hospital in it. We are emotionally attached to this car, and I always tell me kids, ‘When I die, you better not sell it, or I’ll come back to haunt you. I’ve specialized in the restoration of Mustangs since 1979. A few years ago, I started working on my car, and today it looks like it did when I first bought it.” - Fred Glazier, original Mustang owner, 1964 ½ Rangoon Red Mustang coupe
“My first wife and I needed a car, and we had no conception of what we wanted. There was a Mustang convertible on the lot, and my wife fell in love with it so we just ordered it. We would go to the store or to the movies, and when we came out there would be a half dozen people or more looking at the car. It was really cool. At the beginning it was a car. Now, it’s a treasure.” - Edgar “Alex” Alexander, original Mustang owner, 1964½ black Mustang convertible

Driver Dean Martin and Mustang FR500C blister through qualifying lap.
A Mustang FR500C helped Martin take the pole and claim the top spot for the season-opening Grand-Am KONI Challenge Series at the Daytona International Speedway on Friday January 23, 2009. Martin credits the Mustang’s handing and performance in allowing him to break the one-lap, two-minute mark in qualifying with a time of 1:59.555 (107.198 mph).
Martin will co-drive the No. 59 Mustang FR500C with Ken Wilden during the race, on a track that tends to favor Ford's pony car. The Ford teams will be defending two team championships and a manufacturers’ championship earned in 2008, when the KONI series kicks off. Mustang FR500C cars make up 40 percent of the GS field
Quotes
"Getting the pole here in Daytona was our first goal, and of course winning the race tomorrow is our ultimate goal. Our lap out there today was magic. The way our Mustang handled and performed was just perfect. We've worked really hard during the off-season and we want to show everybody that we're the best. I think our team can carry today's success over into tomorrow's race."
- Dean Martin, Driver, No. 59 Mustang FR500C
"A Mustang should definitely win and be on the podium tomorrow. "I'll be honest; I was surprised that we went as fast as we did. I never expected to go that fast. We had been fighting the car all day and it wasn't so good, but I told the team not to mess with anything and to see what happens. I figured if I ran a two-minute flat lap, we'd be okay. So when I came by the timing light and it came up as a 1:59.60, I just went, 'Oh my gosh, I'm just going to come in right now.' I was so excited and just really happy for our team."
- Dean Martin, Driver, No. 59 Mustang FR500C
“We have some of the most credible and highly regarded handling cars in the world on the track and the Mustang has been able to demonstrate its superiority and accomplishment taking on the best of Porsche and BMW.”
- Jamie Allison, Manager Ford Performance Group
On April 23rd, 2008, Ford Motor Company announced it had built the 9 millionth Mustang. The GT Convertible Mustang is heading west to be delivered to a dealership in Iowa.
The Ford Mustang, approaching its 45th anniversary on April 17th, 2009, is one of the most widely recognized vehicles in the world. Today, one of every two sports cars sold in America is a Ford Mustang. The Mustang is also Ford Motor Company’s longest-running nameplate. Mustang was introduced on April 17, 1964, at the New York World’s Fair.
Overview: The 2010 Mustang uses its 45-year heritage as a design touchstone, but with modern, more-aggressive and more-muscular execution. The all-new interior features world-class craftsmanship and fit and finish, as well as a suite of new features and technology.
1.) The 2010 Mustang embraces a stealthy persona on the GT model. The look of the grille and fascia has a design similar to a mask or letterbox treatment. A new black chrome Mustang pony, redesigned to be more chiseled and defined, gallops proudly in the grille.
2.) The 2010 Mustang GT cuts through the wind more efficiently than the outgoing model. Aerodynamic refinements at the front end mean a 7 percent improvement in drag and a reduction of 23 percent in terms of front lift.
3.) The promise of power exudes from the redesigned hood on the 2010 Mustang. A cold-air induction system boosts the V-8 engine by 15 horsepower. Also, the windshield wiper nozzles are now recessed, giving the hood a cleaner appearance.
4.) New wheel and tire options are available for the 2010 Mustang, including a 19-inch performance tire. Tire and wheels are increased by one inch across the board for the Mustang line.
5.) Sequential tail lamps, a Ford cue from the past, help give the 2010 Mustang a distinctive look. Three LED bulbs fire sequentially from the inside during turn indication.
6.) Strong, dynamic lines and sinuous sculptural wheel arches give the impression that the 2010 Mustang is ready to strike. The sheetmetal is taut and strong, remindful of an Olympic sprinter ready to spring from the starting blocks.
Coming or going, the 2010 Mustang casts an evocative, dramatic presence on the road. The enhanced muscular look of the 2010 Mustang carries through to the rear of the car. “It’s a huge improvement,” said Chief Designer Douglas Gaffka.
Design Manager George Saridakis and his team created a more-compact, wraparound look and enhanced Mustang’s width and stance through a new two-piece rear fascia. Reinforcing the Mustang’s heritage are the tri-bar tail lamps. The three individual red chambers, each lit with LED technology, are separated by two clear vertical back-up elements to ensure the tri-bar look is identifiable when lit or unlit. Continuing on the theme of embracing Mustang’s heritage with contemporary execution, the proud and distinctive three-piece central badge is a modern and expressive evolution of the iconic Mustang gas cap, executed in contrasting polished and satin finishes.
“We’re proud of Mustang’s heritage; it’s a fantastic car with a rich, proud history,” Saridakis said. “For the 2010 model, it was a huge challenge and also a huge honor to reference Mustang’s DNA and execute new forms in a modern way.”
The decklid spoiler is redesigned into a duck-tail form, with several options, including one that incorporates a rear-view camera, are available.
Robert Hight, driver of the AAA of So. Cal. Mustang, made it all the way to the final round and was the runner up in the NHRA race in Las Vegas, Nev. Hight defeated Tony Bartone in the first round, teammate Mike Neff in the second round and Tony Pedregon in the third round before losing to Cruz Pedregon in the final.
Hight’s performance moved him up two spots in the standings to third place, just 39 points behind leader Cruz Pedregon with just one race left in the season.
John Force, driver of the Castrol GTX Mustang, made it all the way to the semifinal round before losing to Cruz Pedregon. Force, who defeated Jeff Arend in the first round and Melanie Troxel in the second round, moved up one spot in the standings to seventh place.
Ashley Force, driver of the Castrol GTX Mustang, and Mike Neff, driver of the Old Spice Mustang, each made it into the second round. Ashley Force defeated Ron Capps in the first round before losing to Tony Pedregon, while Neff beat Tim Wilkerson before losing to teammate Robert Hight. Force remains sixth in the standings and Neff remains ninth.
Bob Tasca III, driver of the Motorcraft/QuickLane Mustang, lost to Tony Pedregon in the first round.
The NHRA season finale is in two weeks in Pomona, Calif.
Mustang enthusiasts always have loved the power of America’s favorite muscle car. A glance at the hood showcases the power waiting to be unleashed as the potent nature of the 2010 Mustang is amplified by aggressive sculptural surfacing on the all-new hood. “The strong powerdome punches outward from the hood surface, further emphasizing the powerful engines underneath,” said Design Manager George Saridakis. “It’s practically bursting through the surface.”
The2010 Mustang indeed is ready to charge forward. But with that brute strength are touches of beauty and style as well. “The subtle surface changes on the fender edge make for a more dynamic design,” said Chief Designer Douglas Gaffka. “The softer, blended-in surfacing of the wheel arch creates a much-more flowing look, giving the car an appearance of a wider stance,” added Saridakis.
All the better for 2010 Mustang drivers to leap off the line.
“The 2010 Mustang is all about crafting a world-class car,” said Senior Designer Robert Gelardi. “Everywhere you look, exterior and interior, there’s attention to detail in design, engineering and manufacturing befitting this American icon.”

Attention to detail means everything to the team members who designed, engineered and built the 2010 Mustang. Take the manual transmission shift knob of the Premier Package, for example
“Driving enthusiasts prefer a round shift ball,” said Chief Designer Douglas Gaffka. “We listened to our customers and executed their wishes in a world-class manner for improved driving dynamics.” This new round manual shift knob will be available on all 2010 Mustangs, or if customers prefer, they can choose a leather-wrapped shift knob.
The shifter panel on the center console mirrors the world-class fit and finish found throughout the 2010 Mustang interior.
“The same attention to detail and precise engineering on the instrument panel was also applied to the shift boot and chrome trim ring,” said Design Manager Gary Morales. “First, we went through several material choices for the new boot design until we achieved a higher-quality appearance.”
“Then we precisely mounted the boot and chrome ring sublflush to the console, matching the air registers on the instrument panel,” adds Senior Designer Robert Gelardi. “This clean, consistent design means you’ll know everything was precisely crafted for the 2010 Mustang. And, of course, honest American muscle meant the Premier shift knob had to be real aluminum.
Ford’s Domestic Brand Quality in Statistical Dead Heat with Toyota and Honda for 2008 Model Year
Ford Motor Company’s surging domestic quality is now equal to the best in the industry for the 2008 model year, according to the latest U.S. Global Quality Research System (GQRS) study.
Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles collectively reduced “things gone wrong” (TGW) by 7.7 percent compared to last year and are now statistically equivalent with Honda (including Acura) and Toyota (including Lexus and Scion) atop the list of seven major automakers in the survey.
”This is One Ford at its best. It's taken thousands of people continuously working together with laser-like focus every day to boost vehicle quality for our customers to the top of the pack,” said Bennie Fowler, Ford group vice president, Global Quality. “But this is a never-ending journey. The goal now is to distance ourselves from our top competitors. We want to be the sole quality leader."
Other highlights:
The 2008-launched Ford F-Series Super Duty and the Lincoln Mark LT ranked first in their respective segments in both TGW and customer satisfaction.
Ford Mustang GT 500 topped the sports car category in fewest TGW.
Overall, 18 of 24 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles recorded TGW improvements.
Ford's newly launched Focus improved significantly in TGW and customer satisfaction, now equaling the Toyota Corolla in both categories.
The Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan are significantly better in TGW than the Toyota Camry, which they tied in customer satisfaction.
Ford ranked best in class for TGW performance in the functional areas of Vehicle Engineering and Electrical among major manufacturers.
The 2008 model-year GQRS survey, conducted for Ford by RDA Group of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., solicits feedback on vehicle trouble and customer satisfaction from owners of all major makes and models after three months in service.
Ford Racing Mustang FR500C Captures Grand-Am KONI Challenge Drivers’, Manufacturers’, and Team Championships
Two Ford Mustang FR500C teams led the standings heading into the Grand-Am KONI Challenge season finale at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Va., while Ford was seven points out of first in the manufacturers’ standings. By the end of the weekend, three Mustangs finished in the top five to clinch the manufacturers’ title, Joe Foster and Scott Maxwell won both the drivers’ and team title and Mike Canney, Matt Plumb and Hugh Plumb won the race.
Foster and Maxwell, drivers of the No. 55 Mustang FR500C, capped a terrific season with a fifth-place finish to clinch their first title. During the season, the duo combined for two wins, five top-fives and eight top-10s. They become the second Mustang FR500C drivers to win a KONI championship, with the first coming in 2005.
“Winning the championship was an amazing thing,” said Foster. “It's something Hyper Sport hasn't done before, and team owner Patrick Dempsey and Rick Skelton, the partners in the team haven't either. I know Patrick, on the set of Grey's Anatomy, was watching online all day. Personally, it's the culmination of a lot of hard work by about 100 people sharing in this.”
When Canney, Hugh Plumb and Matt Plumb crossed the finish line in the No. 60 Mustang FR500C to win the race and finish the season tied for sixth in the team standings. Their Rehagen Racing teammates, Dean Martin, Jack Roush Jr. and Ryan Phinny, finished in second place, moving up to fifth place in the standings.
“This is my first win in this series, so it's really exciting, especially to do it like we did today,” said Canney. “Our crew chief Quinn Conda had a great set-up on the Mustang and the car handled really well during my stint. I'm happy to get a 1-2 finish for Rehagen Racing. It's an exciting way to finish this season off and it's also a great way to get things going for next year.”
Bret Seafuse and James Gue, drivers of the No. 37 Mustang FR500C, entered the race just one point behind Foster and Maxwell, and fought the entire race for a chance at the championship. Right when it looked like they might be able to put together a strong run to catch Foster and Maxwell, they lost a cylinder near the end of the race and eventually finished 10th, clinching second place in the standings.
A sportier, more-aggressive front grille and fascia lead the 2010 Mustang down the road. Slimmer headlamps that integrate the turn indicators are incorporated in a larger grille that expresses power and performance. Large twin fog lamps on the GT model further emphasize Mustang’s muscle-car DNA, which takes on a stealthy persona for the GT with dark headlamp bezels and grille surrounds. Also on the GT, the pony badge is finished in dark chrome for the first time. The pony itself received a makeover and is a more chiseled and defined interpretation of the American icon, galloping proudly on the front grille.
"We want people to unequivocally know this is a Mustang when they see it," said Douglas Gaffka, Chief Designer, 2010 Mustang. "The stronger, more-muscular front end of the 2010 Mustang does just that.”
Brute strength can be beautiful as well, however. The sculpted, flowing lines convey style and grace as well as raw power, underscoring Mustang's continuing mantra of Fast, Fun and Affordable.
"The 2010 Mustang has a sculpted, crafted look," said George Saridakis, Design Manager, 2010 Mustang. "The flowing lines are in keeping with Mustang's heritage and DNA. It conveys the sense and attitude of power and performance."
Bid on a 2008 Mustang FR500S Factory-Built Race Car - Serial #32 of 75
Interested in buying a Mustang race car? If so, the place to be is the upcoming Barrett-Jackson car auction in Las Vegas on October 17th, 18th and 19th. Not only can you bid on a variety of classic and exotic street cars, but you'll also have the chance to buy a limited edition factory-built Mustang race car.
Developed exclusively for use in the Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup, the Mustang FR500S was co-developed by Ford Racing Technology and Miller Motorsports Park and is the newest addition to the Mustang FR500 racing family. A total of 77 cars were manufactured at AutoAlliance International in Flat Rock, MI, which makes the FR500S the first race car built by Ford Motor Company at a production facility that was made available for sale to the public. Although the car does have a serial number, it does not have a VIN and is not street-legal.
This unique FR500S, complete with two Sparco racing seats and a second set of safety harnesses, saw considerable track time in 2008 promoting the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge during the 2008 season. The car was first driven at Road Atlanta by 1989 Mustang Trans-Am Champion Dorsey Schroeder, who had a great time behind the wheel.
"This car is balanced, forgiving, and predictable, and the brakes are great . everything you could ever want in a race car."
This "media car" was also raced successfully by guest drivers including JG Pasterjack ("Grassroots Motorsports"), Brian Smith (SPEEDtv.com) and Team Falken Ford Racing Mustang world champion drifter, Vaughn Gittin Jr. This car was also featured on the cover of the August 2008 issue of "Grassroots Motorsports" magazine, which provided extensive coverage of the Mustang Challenge series.
Offered by Ford Racing, the exclusivity, notoriety, and track pedigree of this special car make it perfect as a collector car, a Mustang Challenge race car, or a track car.
Three Ford Mustangs made it into the semifinal round of the NHRA race in Memphis, Tenn.

Welcome to your reserved seat in the new 2010 Mustang. A fresh and modern cockpit amplifies the high-performance driving experience with upgraded, luxurious materials and driver-focused ergonomics. “The console is a key element to the new interior design,” says Mustang Senior Designer Robert Gelardi. “It’s defined by a single dramatic arc sweeping from the IP up to the padded armrest. Besides creating a clean appearance, it also gives you unobstructed arm movement when shifting gears.”
“It’s a clean, modern evolution of the classic Mustang console that is also very functional,” adds Mustang Chief Designer Doug Gaffka. “You’ll definitely see the heritage connection in the shapes and surfaces,” says Gelardi. “Every element on the console was re-thought and upgraded in design and materials.” For example, the cupholders and armrest have a few surprise features. “Dual cup holders, concealed beneath a flip door, are deeper for increased capacity,” said Design Manager Gary Morales. “The console stowage bin under the armrest features a discrete key lock.”
“The door armrest shape is the same arc as the console,” continued Morales. “It underscores the cockpit design and also improves ergonomics - your desk chair has the same armrest shape on both sides, so it made sense to do the same thing in your car.” The cupholders and door panels are also part of the available Ambient Lighting option, which coordinates with the MyColor cluster in the new Mustang.
The seats also have received special design attention for 2010, with upgraded leather and contrasting stitching for the Premier and Color Accent Packages. “We worked to create the perfect combination of form, material and detail,” says Mustang Color & Materials Designer Jennifer Atanasovski Schultz. “It’s not only about the kinds of materials we used, but how we used them in conjunction with the sculpted forms that completes the Mustang experience.”
“This was a CAD–led design process,” says Gelardi. “Defining and confirming shapes and surfaces early allowed plenty of time to engineer robust construction and locate sound insulation so the signature Mustang exhaust roar is the primary sound you’ll hear.”
Five Ford Mustangs finished in the top seven spots in the Grand-Am KONI Challenge race at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah.

In keeping with the more dynamic and aggressive exterior, the 2010 Mustang’s all-new interior is an equally powerful design with world-class craftsmanship and materials. “The double-brow design is a critical part of Mustang interior DNA," says Robert Gelardi, senior designer. “But it's been modernized and integrated into a one-piece, dramatically sculptured instrument panel, executed with the highest levels of fit and finish."
"Hard-plastic instrument panels are a thing of the past," adds Gary Morales, design manager. "The 2010 Mustang instrument panel is exquisitely crafted in soft seamless TPO (Thermoplastic Olefin) skin, fully encompassing genuine aluminum trim. Every line, proportion and surface has been carefully optimized to create an exciting cohesive driving environment."
"The Mustang is about honest, real American muscle," says Jennifer Atanasovski, color and materials designer. "Therefore, silver paint was not acceptable - real aluminum with the soft IP and high quality leather was essential."
"Today's photo really shows the shape and sculpture we put in the design," says Gelardi. "The engine and transmission are the heart of the Mustang, so all the lines expand outward from this central nucleus of power: Notice the dramatic sweep of the aluminum panels, and how the exhaust-inspired air registers and fully circular gauges appear drilled into and precisely inset into the metal," he says.
"The world-class fit and finish, strong yet modern connection to Mustang heritage, and upgraded materials make this a standout interior," says chief designer Douglas Gaffka.
“We went down to the quarter and tenth of a millimeter to make sure everything was precisely executed,” said Gelardi. “That is the difference between ‘good enough’ and exceptional."
Eric de Doncker and Scott Maxwell, drivers of the No. 22 Mustang FR500GT3, finished 25th in the first race of the weekend and finished 20th in the second race in Brno, Czech Republic.
John Graham and Romain Bera, drivers of the No. 24 Mustang FR500GT3, finished 32nd in the first race and 31st in the second race.
GT4 European Cup
Eric de Doncker, driver of the No. 1 Mustang FR500GT4, won the first two races of the weekend in Brno, Czech Republic, and finished third in the final race.
De Doncker remains first in the standings, building a 28-point lead with only one event left.
Raphael van der Straten, driver of the No. 16 Mustang FR500GT4, finished 12th in the first race, 13th in the second race and 11th in the third race.
Formula Drift
Vaughn Gittin Jr. finished ninth at the Formula Drift race, Locked and Loaded, at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.
Gittin Jr. sits 10th in the standings.
NHRA

Hight’s teammates, Ashley Force and Mike Neff, each made it out of the first round, defeating Tim Wilkerson and Gary Densham, respectively.
Ashley Force is sixth in the standings, 49 points out of first place, while Mike Neff is ninth in the standings, 99 points behind the leader.
John Force failed to qualify for the event and is in 10th place, 124 points behind Pedregon.

Two Ford Racing Mustang Challenge races at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah.
In the next coming weeks, the story of the 2010 Mustang will unfold at www.the2010mustang.com. Leading up to the car’s reveal at the LA Auto Show, Mustang enthusiasts will get a sneak peek each week at various design elements of the 2010 Mustang. Since creating the pony car segment 45 years ago, Mustang has withstood the test of time, as competitors have come and gone, leading the way and the 2010 model writes the next chapter in an even more muscular way.
Catch a Glimpse of the 2010 Mustang: Week 1
It all begins at the grille. Mustang chief designer Douglas Gaffka explains that this week’s reveal image provides not just a glimpse of the upcoming pony car, but it hints at the design philosophy behind the 2010 Mustang.
“The new Mustang will be a distinct presence on the road,” said Gaffka. "Everything flows from the shark-nose front; it sets up the direction and tension of all the surfaces. It's even more aggressive than before- it’s a modern interpretation of the strong Mustang lineage."
Senior designer Robert Gelardi echoes, "Every element on this car, including the leading edge, is a cohesive, connected part of this new chapter in Mustang DNA. Both the exterior and interior are modern and dynamic, yet you'll recognize the Mustang’s strong bloodline."
Strong, dynamic lines and sinuous sculptural wheel arches give the impression that the 2010 Mustang is ready to strike. "The sheetmetal is taut and strong, like an Olympic runner ready to take off," added exterior design manager George Saridakis. "The resulting shapes communicate movement and energy."
But the overall shape is only part of the next chapter in the Mustang story. Every detail, no matter how small, was executed with world-class design and craftsmanship. "Both the interior and exterior are full of precise, jeweled details," says design manager Gary Morales. "Whether it’s the headlamps, badging and wheels outside, or the gauges, steering wheel and air registers inside, you'll see the care and quality that went into the design," adds Gelardi.
Ford vehicles featured in the new sci-fi drama series, "Fringe."
The latest show from acclaimed Hollywood producer/director J. J. Abrams, who also is the creator of “Lost” and “Alias”, premieres Tuesday September 9 at 8:00/7:00 p.m. on FOX. “Fringe” follows the adventures of a team of FBI paranormal investigators. And, Ford matched each cast members to a vehicle that helped define their character.
FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham, played by Anna Torv, will investigate strange occurrences in a 2009 Escape Hybrid. Producers wanted a sexy vehicle for Joshua Jackson’s character Peter Bishop, opting for the Ford Mustang. Rounding out the cast, FBI Special Agent Charlie Francis, played by Kirk Acevedo, and Department of Homeland Security Special Agent Phillip Broyles, played by Lance Reddick will drive the new Ford Fusions. As well, the fleet vehicle for the “Fringe” team is the 2009 Flex.

Mustang's new look includes a new take on the iconic pony badge
If you’re wondering what the 2010 Mustang will look like, its new pony badge offers a clue. Like the upcoming 2010 Mustang, the new pony badge is more defined, more muscular and sure to catch the eye of Mustang enthusiasts.
Senior Designer Rick Howard spent hours researching images of horses and understanding their appearance in natural, wild settings. That effort, along with his personal riding experience, helped bring forward the design of the Mustang pony badge.
“We’re very much concerned with detail and precision in our cars at Ford,” said Senior Designer Rick Howard. “We want our Mustang pony badge to be as good as the rest of the car.”
Like the Mustang itself, which was revealed at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, the Mustang emblem has a proud heritage. The original Mustang logo was drawn by Phil Clark for the Mustang I. The Mustang logo then was refined for the Mustang II in 1974 by Charles Keresztes, a former member of Hungary’s Olympic equestrian team. The pony continued on the front grille through 1978 when it was replaced by “FORD” in block letters through 1982. The iconic Ford Blue Oval graced the front of Mustangs through 1993. The pony emblem returned in 1994 with some refinements. The logo was updated again in 2005.
Accelerate your film career with Ford Mustang competition
There are a few words that spring to mind when you think of the Mustang. Fast, raw and original, are a few of them. Keep in mind that Mustang, to most, is more than just a car. Everyone has a Mustang story. What’s yours? Ford and Filmaka.com are proud to announce an exciting new opportunity to create content about the iconic Mustang.
Ford and JWT Team Detroit have provided eight "Mustang stories". The stories are linked here: http://www.filmaka.com/press/MustangStoryIdeas.pdf in easy-to-print formats. Participants may submit a script for one, some, or all of these stories – or tell their own original story. These stories are meant to inspire, not to define. There is always opportunity to add your personal touch. The deadline for submitting scripts is Tuesday, August 26, 2008.
Twenty members will be selected to produce their films. Each semi-finalist will be provided with a $5,000 production budget and contacts at their local Mustang Club (where available), with which they can arrange for the use of automobiles if needed. Semi-finalists will then have two weeks to complete and upload their films (deadline: Tuesday, September 16, 2008); nine winners and one alternate will be selected and awarded an additional $5000 in prize money. The winners will also create and appear in promos for their films which may air during a primetime broadcast network television program in the US. From these Winners, a Grand Prize Winner will be awarded the opportunity to direct a film for promotional materials for the 2010 Mustang Reveal!
Although all first-year Mustangs are titled as 1965s, the early cars assembled before July 31, 1964, are known as 1964½ models -- as they were built before many of Mustang's standard features were brought into production. Want some good ways to tell a so-called 64½ from the regular '65? Look for a generator charging system (and generator charge light) instead of an alternator; big frame-mounted horns behind the radiator; a brake-light switch installed on the master cylinder; plus a heater fan switch with a center "off" position – just to list a few.
Production of the Mustang II King Cobra model ended on July 28, 1978. Even more exclusive than the popular Mustang II Cobra II fastback of that era, the King Cobra came with a standard 5.0-liter V-8, adjustable shocks, heavy duty springs, a rear stabilizer bar, front brake cooling ducts and unique alloy wheels. While pundits recall it mostly for an emission-choked horsepower rating and its splashy snake hood graphics, big front air dam and wheel spats, the King Cobra was the top performance Mustang model of its day, designed to compete directly with GM's "Screaming Chicken" F-Body. Less than 5,000 Mustang II 1978 King Cobras were produced.
Since 1964 the Ford Mustang has been an American icon.
A bestseller for 22 years straight, the Mustang has always been an American favorite. Here are just a few reasons why:
Performance – The 2008 model’s 4.6-liter V8 delivers 300 horsepower and 320 foot-pounds of torque at 4,500 rpm. The 4.0-liter, single-overhead cam V6 produces 210 hp and 240 ft-lbs of torque at 3,500 rpm. With a whopping 500 hp and 480 ft-lbs of torque, the 5.4-liter Supercharged V8 is for performance fanatics.
Best-in-Class Safety – Mustang GT is the only convertible to earn a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for frontal crash, side impact and rollover. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) also rated the Mustang convertible tops in highest side-impact performance.
Fuel Efficiency – At 26 miles per gallon on the highway, the V-6 has best-in-class fuel economy.
Quality & Value – J.D. Power and Associates’ Initial Quality Study in 2007 awarded top honors to Mustang as the Best Midsize Sporty Car. And, VEHIX TV™ named Mustang among the vehicles with the best resale value.
Innovation – Ford engineers continually respond to customer demands. The 2009 Mustang V-6 and GT models offer a factory-installed glass roof option that delivers unrestricted, panoramic views.
More Choice – Mustang provides a wide range of choices. From Bullitt to Cal Special to GT500 to Warriors in Pink to the Pony Package, customers can find a model that suits their style.
Limited Editions – For customers looking for something special, the 2009 45th Anniversary Mustang will be one of the rarest years of Mustangs ever.
American Made – Since 1964, every Mustang has been produced in the United States. The 2009 Mustang is no exception, rolling off the assembly line in Flat Rock, Michigan.
Customization – Mustang remains the most customized vehicle in the world with hundreds of factory and aftermarket components.
Quotes:
"Our Mustang has the most fuel efficient V6 in its segment. For serious enthusiasts, we have Mustangs that provide serious horsepower. Either way, when you own a Mustang, you are part of something special - a real piece of American heritage that goes back 45 years."
Fritz Wilke, Mustang Brand Manager
Earning the five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for frontal crash, side impact and rollover tests, the 2008 Mustang GT became the only convertible on the market to attain the coveted rating. As well, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) bestowed the Mustang convertible with the highest side-impact performance rating.
The top-selling 2008 convertible in the U.S. has outstanding body stiffness, more than twice its predecessor, which acts as a safety cage and helps to protect the cabin from deformation and intrusion during an impact.
Ford engineers designed the front structure, which often bears the brunt of demanding offset frontal crashes, to absorb energy and offer increased passenger compartment protection. The front rails spread the force of the crash evenly at the firewall, helping to dissipate it before it reaches the passenger compartment.
In addition to the 2008 Mustang GT’s already comprehensive safety package, Ford added standard seat-mounted head and chest side bags. Other safety features include all-speed traction control, anti-lock brakes (ABS), dual stage driver and front passenger air bags, safety belt pretensioners, and Ford’s industry-leading technology, Beltminder® that reminds the driver and front-seat passenger to buckle up. Both NHTSA and IIHS noted the effectiveness of Beltminder as a significant life-saving technology.
Quotes:
"The Mustang convertible is another example of working at all levels to offer a vehicle that is both sporty and safe. It was developed with a dedicated focus on safety, making it the highest-rated Mustang ever built."
Jim Vondale, Director of Ford's Automotive Safety Office

Glass roof option delivers a panoramic view in Mustang V-6 and GT models.
For its 45th anniversary, the optional glass roof in the 2009 Mustang offers car occupants a generous, unrestricted view with more natural light. Factory-installed, a first in the sports car segment, the new glass roof is priced at $1,995 making it a less expensive option to the convertible model.
Rigorously tested for durability, water and air leakage as well as squeak and rattle testing, the glass roof Mustang features:
Tinted privacy glass that reduces infrared energy by 50 percent as well as vehicle cool-down time.
A layer of transparent, sound-absorbent vinyl that keeps the cabin quieter by reducing noise, vibration and harshness.
A silver pyrolytic coating glass that renders the glass reflective, cutting the energy used by the car’s air conditioning system by 20 percent, and preventing interior fabric fading and deterioration.
A built-in manual roller blind that allows customers to block exposure on bright, sunny days.
UV-filtering capabilities comparable to sunscreen lotion with a sun protection factor (SPF) of approximately 50, which exceeds the dermatologist-recommended sunscreen strength of at least SPF-15.
Ford engineers developed the roof after Ford dealer and market research in 2005 showed that 51 percent of Mustang customers said the glass roof styling appealed to them, and 42 percent said it would make the vehicle more unique.
Quote:
"As the automotive landscape becomes increasingly competitive, features such as a panoramic glass roof will help differentiate our products from the competition. And this glass roof will allow owners to enjoy the outdoors year-round from the comfort of their Mustang."

America’s favorite muscle car hits the 9 million mark.
After rolling off the assembly line in Flat Rock, Michigan, on April 16, 2008, the 9 millionth Mustang produced by Ford went to Iowa soybean farmer Thomas Krumm on May 7, 2008. The impressive milestone was marked by a celebration at Gookin Ford in Story City, Iowa, where Krumm bought the vehicle.
First introduced at the New York Word’s Fair on April 17, 1964, the Ford Mustang sold 419,000 in its first 12 months on the market. It’s Ford’s longest running nameplate as well as America’s favorite muscle car, holding over 40 percent of its market segment. Today, one out of every two sports cars sold is a Mustang.
Quotes:
"It is an honor not only to sell the nine millionth Mustang at my dealership, but also to sell this vehicle to such a deserving family in the community."
John Gookin, Ford Dealer, Story City Iowa
"Mustang is an icon and the nine millionth Mustang is a milestone we're very proud of. So many people have contributed to Mustang's proud 44-year heritage, from the incredible Mustang owners and enthusiasts to our partners where Mustangs are built to Ford's Product Development and Ford Division teams."

Ford vehicles are still durable and easy to handle, but the women behind the wheel bear little resemblance to the hothouse flower of yesteryear.
The 2011 Ford Mustang GT, powered by a new 412-hp 5.0-liter V-8 engine, adds yet another notch to its belt: an EPA rating of 26 mpg highway when equipped with the six-speed manual transmission, giving it the best fuel economy in its class.

While on a job site a Peterbuilt Semi became stuck in the mud. The driver asked me if I could pull him out of the mud because he didnt want to have to call a Semi recovery vehicle. I hooked up to the Semi with a doubled \"snatch strap\" and I put the truck in 4 wheel drive and took off. I pulled the Semi out with literally no resistance.. Job well done Ford!!
