Throughout its 100-year history, Ford has led the way in life-saving features, pioneering affordable safety advancements such as seat belts for the mass market. Today, Ford Motor Company is a safety leader with the most top-safety-rated vehicles of any automaker.
Ford also led the shift to multiple-deployment air bags in the 1990s and introduced the most unique stability control system in the world in the early 2000s. Ford is also building on its safety leadership by increasingly addressing driver behavior and broadening its efforts from crash protection to “active” collision-avoidance technologies.
The new, innovative MyKey technology, which debuts as a standard feature on the 2010 Ford Focus will quickly rolls out across the lineup. It is designed to help parents encourage their teen-agers to drive safer, more fuel efficiently, and to increase safety-belt usage. Collision Warning with Brake Support, an advanced collision avoidance technology that uses ford-safety radar to detect the most common accidents – rear-end collisions – will be available on certain Ford and Lincoln vehicles in 2009.
