Watch Ford F-150 Support FAT Tuesday on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Jimmy Kimmel Live

Tonight on Jimmy Kimmel, an exclusive behind-the-scenes Mardi Gras segment will air in support of FAT Tuesday.

With the help of the 2010 Ford F-150, Guillermo was able to achieve his life-long dream of appearing on a float during the Mardi Gras Tucks parade.  His several thousand pound royal float was towed down St. Charles Avenue and filled to the brim with muffaletta sandwiches, a new love of his that he wished to share with all the people of New Orleans!

The episode will chronicle Guillermo's entire experience including a special meeting with Super Bowl Champion Saints players Darren Sharper and Roman Harper, as well as a recap of the building of the float and Guillermo's interaction with the people of New Orleans.

While you watch, don't fight the urge to shout out "who dat?"- the enthusiasm from Mardi Gras and a Super Bowl win is infectious, and Guillermo's experience is surely a once-in-a-lifetime event!

Fiesta TV Dream

The Ford Fiesta already is proving that it’s got the makings of a star, but now Ford’s new small car is serving as a vehicle to stardom for a few aspiring young artists. Three Fiestas are hitting the road with five young people in tow to promote Simon Fuller’s new reality show “If I Can Dream,” which follows the artists as they move to the Hollywood Hills looking for their big break.

The five artists include a musician, an actor, two actresses and a model, who will be mentored by the best in Hollywood while trying to make their dreams come true. All the while, their lives will be captured and streamed online in real-time, 24/7 on www.ificandream.com. It also will be available for TV viewers exclusively on Hulu, a Web site offering popular TV shows and movies from commercial networks.

Fiesta serves as the “sixth bedroom” of the show – it’s the artists’ primary way of transportation, and it is outfitted with three cameras so they can talk about their experiences through livestreaming.

The “If I Can Dream” tour will be visiting New York, Feb. 10-12; Boston, Feb. 14-15; Chicago, Feb. 16-17; Atlanta, Feb. 18; New Orleans, Feb. 19; Dallas, Feb. 21-22; Phoenix, Feb. 23; San Francisco, Feb. 24; and Los Angeles, Feb. 25.

Fiesta’s involvement with “If I Can Dream” builds on the success of the Fiesta Movement, a social media initiative that generated more than 6 million YouTube views, nearly 740,000 Flickr views and more than 3.7 million Twitter impressions. The Fiesta Movement and test drive program have resulted in more than 100,000 handraisers.

Fiesta has it all – and more
Going on sale this summer, the all-new Ford Fiesta features an expressive, vibrant design, sharp reflexes, and a global track record that will redefine U.S. small car customers’ expectations. With 15 class-exclusive technologies and a projected best-in-class highway fuel economy of 40 mpg, Fiesta brings efficiency and convenience together in one package.

It’s also designed to be versatile, personal and adaptable. In fact, Fiesta is expected to deliver best-in-class safety, convenience and connectivity with the segment-exclusive SYNC® voice-activated communications system, as well as an expressive color palette and available graphics.

Already more than 6,000 consumers have made reservations for the Ford Fiesta – half of them from non-Ford customers – and more than 100,000 handraisers are showing an interest in the new fuel-efficient car. Customers can begin placing their order for the new Fiesta today through their local Ford dealer.

Quote
“This is the perfect way for people across the country to connect with the Fiesta and the ‘If I Can Dream’ artists. Not only will they get to see the Fiesta up close, but they’ll get to meet the artists on the first part of this exciting journey.”

Ever Wonder What You Have to Do to Earn A ‘Key to the City’? Don’t Ask.

Thursday, October 8th, 2009
Comedian Mark Malkoff and the Fusion Hybrid

What’s the deal with earning a “key to the city?” What gargantuan lock does it unfasten anyway? As civic rituals go it’s kind of an absurd photo op. Everyone gathers on the steps of City Hall and the mayor hands a humongous old-fashioned key to some grinning citizen. How about giving them a “get out of jail for free” card instead? It promises more action.

One wonders what comedian Mark Malkoff will have to do on his current quest to see how many mayors east of the Mississippi he can convince to give him keys to their cities. The jokester – who has made news before for doing unusual things like living and sleeping in an IKEA store for a week while his apartment was being fumigated – is undertaking this 28-day odyssey in a fuel-efficient fashion, behind the wheel of the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid.

Maybe you remember the Fusion Hybrid – America’s most fuel-efficient midsize sedan – making news in April when it set a world record traveling 1,445 miles on a single tank of gas. The Fusion boasts an EPA-estimated 41 mpg in the city.

Malkoff says he's thrilled to be partnered with the new Ford Fusion Hybrid, adding “I always tell people I feel like I'm driving KITT from 'Knight Rider' because of all the cool technology in the car. It's the best car I've ever driven."

All of Malkoff's adventures behind the wheel of the Fusion Hybrid will be chronicled in cyberspace. Videos, photos and blogs will be featured daily at www.markmalkoff.com/keystothecity, and Malkoff will provide interested followers with regular updates on social networking sites such as Twitter, Flickr and Facebook.

Malkoff and the Ford Fusion Hybrid began their quest into the unknown Monday in Harrisburg, Pa., where the mayor had a somewhat peculiar task in store for him to complete in order to earn a key to the city. Apparently, all of the police officers ride on horses, so the mayor wanted Malkoff to follow them around and clean up after the horses in order to get the key.

Malkoff, who readily admits he will do just about anything to get a key, says he hopes to earn 100 keys before his journey with the Ford Fusion Hybrid ends on Nov. 1.

Quotes
"Once people start finding out about this, mayors from all over the country are going to be Twittering me to come to their cities," he said. "I like doing things that on paper look almost impossible to pull off."
– Mark Malkoff, comedian

"Mark will be connected and working constantly with both hands securely on the wheel, thanks to the Fusion Hybrid's voice-activated Ford SYNC® communication system," said Eggen. "It also will be great to see Mark's reaction to his own real-world fuel economy."
– Jeff Eggen, Ford car experiential marketing manager

Battery Electric Ford Focus in the Spotlight on Leno Show

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009
Ford Battery Electric Focus

Veteran TV funnyman Jay Leno knows how to get a charge out of his audiences, and he usually does it by making them laugh. But now the noted car guy plans to get his millions of viewers charged up about electric cars by putting celebs exclusively behind the wheel of the all-new battery electric Ford Focus for “The Jay Leno Show” segment called the “Green Car Challenge.”

The battery electric vehicle, specially made for the show, features elements of the electric Focus that Ford will begin selling in North America in 2011.

The Star of the Show
Leno will exclusively showcase Ford’s electric Focus during the entire first season, which kicks off Sept. 14. Celebrity guests will compete against each other in the “Green Car Challenge” segment.

Ford’s hybrid and battery electric vehicle program team worked together with Ford Racing to develop the special BEV for the show. It took three weeks to build the car and another couple of weeks to properly tune the suspension so it could be driven fast on a racetrack. The development work was done at Ford’s Michigan Proving Grounds in Romeo, Mich.

The Focus BEV built for the show has a split battery pack, with one battery in the cargo area and one underneath the car in the space normally occupied by a fuel tank. Because this Focus is built to race, it is equipped with a roll bar and five-point harness for the driver.

Ford’s Electrifying Development
Ford has an aggressive plan to put at least four electrified vehicles on the road in North America by 2012, as well as new hybrids and a plug-in hybrid. Among coming products are pure battery electric versions of the Transit Connect commercial van in 2010 and Focus sedan in 2011. The Transit Connect is expected to have a range of up to 100 miles.

The Focus BEV, which Ford is developing with Magna, will be produced at Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant. The sedan can be charged from both a standard 110V as well as a 220V wall outlet.

Quotes

“Having our Focus battery electric vehicle on the show is a great way to demonstrate how fun to drive these cars really can be. Beyond the immediate excitement of driving, it demonstrates that Ford is investing in this technology and that we’re committed to electric vehicles.”
– Lisa Drake, chief engineer, Ford Hybrid and Battery Electric Vehicle Programs

“Ford is absolutely committed to delivering best-in-class fuel efficiency with every new vehicle we introduce. The Focus showcases how electric vehicles can be smart, green, fast and fun. It also illustrates Ford’s commitment to fuel efficiency and doing our part to contribute to a better world.”
– Derrick Kuzak, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development

“We are committed to delivering new products with the best fuel economy in every segment in which we compete – driven in large part by substantial advancements in powertrain technology. We are focusing on sustainable technology solutions that can be used not for hundreds or thousands of cars – but for millions of cars, because that is how Ford truly will make a difference.”
– Barb Samardzich, vice president, Ford Global Powertrain Engineering.

Flash of Genius

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Key facts about the intermittent windshield wiper issue.

Development of Intermittant Wipers

The film "Flash of Genius" chronicles the life story of Bob Kearns, who asserted that he invented the intermittent windshield wiper and sued Ford, Chrysler and other automakers for patent infringement. While films like "Flash of Genius" are made for entertainment purposes, the facts are often less dramatic.

Bob Kearns as well as hundreds of engineers from many companies, including Ford, helped develop the intermittent wiper as part of an evolution of existing automotive and electronic components.

While there are inaccuracies in the film, Ford sees no value in re-hashing the history of a legal case that was resolved in court almost 20 years ago, when a jury ruled that Ford did not willfully violate Mr. Kearns' patent.

Today, Ford continues to make engineering and design breakthroughs in areas such as fuel efficiency, safety and smart technology, and is proud of its 100-year legacy of innovation in automotive technology.

FORD FLEX ON WISTERIA LANE

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Tom Scavo behind the wheel of a 2009 Ford Flex in "Desperate Housewives"

2009 Ford Flex

In one of several Ford product integrations coming to television this fall, the 2009 Ford Flex will cruise down Wisteria Lane on ABC's award-winning series "Desperate Housewives."

Ford worked closely with Universal Studios to cast a vehicle that would best match the personality of the character Tom Scavo, played by actor Doug Savant.

Two other Ford vehicles also were chosen on the show -- the new 2009 Lincoln MKS and the 2009 Mazda6.

A new character named Dave Williams will drive the Lincoln MKS and young Andrew Van De Kamp will be the owner of the sporty 2009 Mazda6. The new season begins Sunday, Sept. 28 on ABC.

Quote:
“Tom is the type of guy who wants to be seen in a car that’s different. He doesn’t necessarily belong in a high-end exotic car, yet he needs a vehicle that’s really bold and that stands out. Pairing him up with the Flex was a natural.”

FORD’S “FRINGE” ROLE

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Ford vehicles featured in the new sci-fi drama series, "Fringe."

2009 Ford Escape Hybrid

The latest show from acclaimed Hollywood producer/director J. J. Abrams, who also is the creator of “Lost” and “Alias”, premieres Tuesday September 9 at 8:00/7:00 p.m. on FOX. “Fringe” follows the adventures of a team of FBI paranormal investigators. And, Ford matched each cast members to a vehicle that helped define their character.

FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham, played by Anna Torv, will investigate strange occurrences in a 2009 Escape Hybrid. Producers wanted a sexy vehicle for Joshua Jackson’s character Peter Bishop, opting for the Ford Mustang. Rounding out the cast, FBI Special Agent Charlie Francis, played by Kirk Acevedo, and Department of Homeland Security Special Agent Phillip Broyles, played by Lance Reddick will drive the new Ford Fusions. As well, the fleet vehicle for the “Fringe” team is the 2009 Flex.

Quotes

“There is tremendous buzz in Hollywood surrounding this program, and we’re excited to be a part of it. We auditioned three cars – the Escape Hybrid, the new Ford Flex and the Mustang – and the producers wanted them all, plus the Ford Fusion.”

SHELBY GT500KR STARS AS KITT

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Anticipated “Knight Rider” television series features Ford Shelby Mustang GT500KR

2008 Shelby GT500KR as KITT

The new television series “Knight Rider” stars Justin Bruening as Mike Traceur, son of original character Michael Knight, played by David Hasselhoff. A Shelby GT500KR will take on the role of KITT, the super intelligent, computerized talking car.

Mike Traceur and KITT fight criminal forces that operate above the reach of traditional law enforcement. When under fire, KITT will transform into Attack mode. There will be several versions of the Shelby GT500KR, and KITT will be required to morph into other Ford vehicles throughout the season.

Viewers can tune into NBC on Wednesday, September 24 at 8:00/7:00 p.m. when “Knight Rider” premieres.

Quotes

"KITT is all about technology and speed. He’s a quick thinker, and he’s overly intelligent. Mustang is the king of cool and one of the most recognized vehicles in cinema history. There’s also an intelligence and sleekness to the car. For all of those reasons and more, the Shelby GT500KR was a perfect choice for this role.”
Al Uzielli, Senior Advisor to Ford Global Brand Entertainment

“That car is a big secret, and it will be revealed when the show premieres. We had a Hollywood car designer create a tricked-out version of the Shelby, and we’ve done some really cool things to it.”
Gary Scott Thompson, Executive Producer, "Knight Rider"

"Nothing emotionalizes a product and makes it more understandable to a potential buyer than seeing it in an entertainment media, especially seeing it with an aspirational character. When a Ford product is thoughtfully and effectively placed in a television show or motion picture, there is always the potential to raise consideration."
Al Uzielli, Senior Advisor to Ford Global Brand Entertainment

WILL SMITH’S “I AM LEGEND” AND FORD

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Shelby Mustang GT500, Expedition and Escape Hybrid co-star in “I Am Legend.”

Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 Breaks Into The Movies

In the blockbuster film, “I Am Legend”, Will Smith drives the deserted streets of a futuristic New York City in a red 2007 Shelby Mustang GT500 with signature white stripes. The first few minutes of the movie shows Smith’s character, Robert Neville, in the Shelby GT500 chasing a herd of wild deer through the empty streets of Manhattan.
Throughout the movie Will Smith also shares scenes with a Ford Expedition. At the end, Smith uses the aptly named, and environmentally friendly, Ford Escape Hybrid to depart New York City.
“I Am Legend” isn't the first movie version of Richard Matheson's 1954 science fiction novel to feature a red Ford vehicle. A 1971 adaptation called “The Omega Man” put Charlton Heston behind the wheel of a bright-red 1970 Ford LTD.
